Thank You, JP Sides

A New Chapter for JP and the Future of SEMO ELITE FC

Reflections from Club Vice President Nick Rapisardo

"I just want to make a difference."

— JP Sides

To the SEMO ELITE FC Families,

As Club Vice President of SEMO ELITE FC, I've had the privilege of working alongside JP Sides for many years. While there will be an announcement coming shortly regarding the future of our Director of Coaching position, today isn't about that.

Today is about JP.

As many of you have recently seen, JP has accepted the position of Head Boys Soccer Coach at Notre Dame High School. With this new opportunity, he will be stepping away from his role as Director of Coaching for SEMO ELITE FC while continuing to serve as Club President.

This moment feels like the right opportunity to reflect on what JP has meant to our club, our players, and the landscape of youth soccer throughout Southeast Missouri.

In 2011, JP started what would eventually become SEMO ELITE FC with just eight players and a vision. Today, nearly 500 players and families from communities throughout Southeast Missouri and beyond call SEMO ELITE FC home. That kind of growth doesn't happen by accident. It takes vision, sacrifice, grit, and an unwavering belief in something bigger than yourself.

Over the years, I've had countless conversations with JP about soccer, leadership, and the future of this club.

One thing he has said to me time and time again is:

"I just want to make a difference."

And if you know JP, you know those aren't just words.

He has always believed his purpose was to be where he could make the biggest impact on young people. That's what has driven him for the last fifteen years. Not trophies. Not recognition. Not personal gain. What has driven him has always been the players, the kids, the opportunities, the development, and the chance to help a young athlete become something more than they thought possible.

What makes JP's story so remarkable is that everything he built here was built through sacrifice and volunteer service. This wasn't a career. This wasn't a paycheck. This was fifteen years of giving his time, energy, passion, and heart to creating opportunities for young athletes throughout our region.

One of the most significant moments in the history of youth soccer in Southeast Missouri came during the summer of 2019. Under JP's leadership, something happened that many people thought would never happen. Independent teams and clubs throughout our area made the decision to set aside differences, put egos aside, and come together under one vision for the benefit of the players.

SEMO ELITE FC, Jackson United, SEMO Rush, SEMO Swarm, and Cape County United all played a role in creating what became a new and united era of SEMO ELITE FC.

The belief was simple:

When the best players train together, everyone gets better.

When resources are combined, more opportunities are created.

When communities work together, player development improves.

That decision forever changed the landscape of club soccer in Southeast Missouri. It expanded opportunities for players from communities stretching from Farmington and Sainte Genevieve to Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Sikeston, Dexter, Marble Hill, Charleston, Poplar Bluff, Southern Illinois, and everywhere in between. More importantly, it created an environment where players of all abilities could find a level of play that challenged them, helped them develop, and allowed them to continue enjoying the game longer.

Looking back now, it's hard to imagine where youth soccer in our region would be without that moment. It wasn't easy. It required difficult conversations, trust, compromise, and leadership. But it happened because people were willing to focus on what was best for the players. That philosophy has always been at the heart of JP's leadership.

While many people know JP as a coach, I've had the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes. I've seen the countless hours that most people never will—the conversations, the planning, the mentoring, the difficult decisions, and the constant pursuit of finding ways to create better opportunities for kids in our region. I've seen the frustration when things weren't where he believed they could be. I've seen the excitement when a player accomplished something they never thought possible. And I've seen the passion he brings to every conversation about player development and every discussion about the future of this club.

One thing I've learned about JP is that he genuinely cares. He cares about the players, the coaches, the families, and deeply about providing opportunities for young athletes in Southeast Missouri.

Anyone who has worked closely with JP also knows that he is a perfectionist. He has never been satisfied with "good enough." Whether it was a training session, a team performance, a coaching standard, a club initiative, or a player development pathway, he was always asking how it could be better.

That relentless pursuit of excellence has helped shape SEMO ELITE FC into what it is today.

That pursuit of excellence didn't just help build a club. It helped produce results.

Over the course of the past fifteen years, JP has coached well over 1,000 matches while helping develop players and teams at every level of the game. As a coach, JP-led teams have earned two State Championships and two State Runner-Up finishes, accomplishments that place him among the most successful coaches in our region.

Under his leadership, SEMO ELITE FC has grown from a single team into the largest, most successful, and most influential youth soccer organization in Southeast Missouri.

Since 2022 alone, SEMO ELITE FC 11v11 teams under JP's leadership have compiled a remarkable record of 105-10-13, earning an 82% win percentage while capturing two State Championships and two State Runner-Up finishes. During that same period, SEMO ELITE FC teams have earned four State Championships and four State Runner-Up finishes across multiple age groups.

And next week, SEMO ELITE FC will have three teams competing in the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup North Central Regional Championships, with an opportunity to advance to the National Presidents Cup Championships. Another milestone that reflects how far this club has come under JP's leadership.

His impact as a coach can certainly be measured in wins, championships, and advancement opportunities. But his impact as a leader goes far beyond the scoreboard. His vision helped unite communities. His leadership helped create opportunities where none previously existed. And his commitment to player development helped raise the standard of youth soccer throughout Southeast Missouri.

JP's Legacy at SEMO ELITE FC

But if you asked JP what he's most proud of, I don't believe he'd point to a trophy, banner, or championship. He'd point to the players, the kids who gained confidence, found a place to belong, learned lessons that extended far beyond the soccer field, and were given opportunities that otherwise may not have existed. That's the legacy he's built.

While JP and I have worked together for many years in building this club, I also consider him a very good friend.

One of the things I respect most about JP is his honesty. Whether you agree with him or not, you'll always know where he stands. He isn't someone who tells people what they want to hear. He tells them what he genuinely believes. Sometimes that creates difficult conversations. Sometimes it challenges people. But I've always known his opinions come from a place of conviction and from a desire to do what he believes is right for the players, the club, and the game.

I also want to make something very clear.

While JP has accepted the position of Head Boys Soccer Coach at Notre Dame High School, SEMO ELITE FC remains committed to serving and supporting players from every community, every school, and every high school program throughout Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

That has always been part of who we are.

The players remain the priority. They are the foundation of this club. They are the reason this club exists.

Whether a player attends Notre Dame, Jackson, Cape Central, Farmington, Poplar Bluff, Perryville, Sikeston, Dexter, or any other school in our region, they deserve the same opportunities, the same support, and the same commitment to their development.

That belief was important when this club was founded, and it remains just as important today.

SEMO ELITE FC has always been bigger than any one coach, any one team, or any one school. It is about providing opportunities for players throughout our region and helping them become the best versions of themselves both on and off the field.

As we move forward, I want every SEMO ELITE FC family to know that our mission remains unchanged. We will continue to serve players from throughout Southeast Missouri and beyond. We will continue to focus on long-term player development. And we will continue striving to help our athletes compete at the highest levels possible.

That mission was important to JP in 2011, and it remains important to all of us today.

When I look at where this club started and where it is today, I can honestly say that JP accomplished exactly what he set out to do.

He made a difference.

Personally, I want to thank JP not only for what he has built, but for the example he has set.

Southeast Missouri soccer is better because of him.

Thousands of players have had opportunities because of him.

And SEMO ELITE FC exists because of him.

Thank you for your leadership, your sacrifice, for believing in what youth soccer in Southeast Missouri could become. The foundation you've built is strong, and the impact you've made on this club, this community, and the players you've served will be felt for generations to come.

As you begin this next chapter at Notre Dame, I know you'll continue doing what you've always set out to do, make a difference. We are proud of you, grateful for you, and excited to see the impact you'll continue to have on the next generation of players.

With gratitude,

Nick Rapisardo
